Going digital with Archana Purohit

There are many #Bosswomen that we continue to cheer through the group, especially the ones who spare time and share some great entrepreneurial tips and tricks from their kitty.

This time, we have a passionate writer and a communications person who has transitioned from print to digital media ( and of course my soft corner for fellow writers). Archana Purohit has successfully handed prominent roles, as a content creator, consultant, strategist, marketer and above all working with a thinking, learning and adapting mind-set.

Today her agency, Digital Ozone works around 50+ prominent brands with teams based in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Nagpur. Though her journey doesn’t end here, and she is looking forward to her new venture ‘DO Academy’ that aims to assimilate a digital learning platform that cumulates her learning and builds a path of progress in digital marketing & web related services.

Here’s our tete-a-tete with her:

Q1. How did the idea for your business come about?

Archana: I was a chance entrepreneur. I always worked for someone else, ranging from a multi-national media company to helping my father Digitalise his media organisation. The whole of the last decade was only about print for me. My enthusiasm for startups got me into a consultation role; and there on some happy clients edged me to manage their complete media account. My zeal for marketing was driven by my passion for business and content. About two years ago, I started with two clients and two people team out of a co-working space. And today we have more than 20 core people, across 5 major cities. We are still a niche/boutique digital media agency- but from within we are a close knit family, working in tandem with clients as an extension of their organisation.

Q2. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?

Archana: Creating a work environment that is not guarded by restrictions, has been my main aim. And I can proudly say that I have managed to maintain that vigour in my team and in our interactions with our clients.

Q3. How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?

Archana: Honestly, we haven’t been hard selling ourselves till now (Maybe because we are busy hard selling for our clients). Most of our active business has been references and personal interactions. Digital media has brought in some exciting nationwide presence for us, and we have been able to work on some parallels business ideas that have worked as an extension to our services.

Q4. What piece of advice would you give to women who would start a business of their own.

Archana: Count every penny you spend, no marketing agency will tell you that. But it’s always better to be frugal than to fail hard. Also, be proud of your work, talk about it, network, and hard sell it. You are your own ‘Best Client’ and ‘Worst critic’- so if you are happy with your Work Quality and Perseverance you will be able to scale and sustain – its just a matter of time.

Q5. What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?

Archana: Have a routine, spend some time during the day doing what you love doing- it can simple things like cooking, working out, reading, dancing, writing – live you hobby, and you will achieve your dreams. And also guard yourself from pessimistic forces and Social Nazi’s.

Love the little nuggets of wisdom, hopefully this will help many budding entrepreneurs out there.
