Talking Sustainability with Prashansa Shahani

Hello, hello everyone. This week we are featuring a Serial Entrepreneur who is strongly passionate towards sustainability. She is a marketing and events professional turned Entrepreneur.
Prashansa Shahani played a crucial role in building Isthara, one of the most unique co living spaces currently based in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi NCR and marketing and branding the Radisson Gachibowli property as head of their marketing division. Her passion towards environment, growth and sustainability made her launch the Hemis Store, India’s first all hemp lifestyle store and also co founded Hemp Republic an all Hemp company in 2018.

Here’s the tête-à-tête where she gives us a peek into her entrepreneurial journey.

Q1. How did the idea for your business come about?
PS: Being a person from an event and marketing background, I have had the opportunity to work with several companies across multiple industries but over the years, the root of all was almost always the same. Always leaning towards a more ‘satvik’ approach in life, there was always an latent passion and interest towards sustainability. After not having encountered a single company doing anything for the environment, it pushed me to take a leap and co-found Hemp Republic which then led to me Founding Hemis. Hemis, I felt, defined me and was something which I believed was the need of the hour – Smart, Stylish Lifestyle which was both people and planet positive.

Q2. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
PS: Two things actually – my goal and passion. I have always had the ‘keeda’ to build a host of brands which bring joy and value to people across demographics. Add that with a deep love for the environment and you get my driving force to move away from a day job and become an entrepreneur to start a Hemp-centric company.

Q3. How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?
PS: For Hemis, we have created India’s First Hemp Lifestyle experience store so that we can reach out to people directly rather than just digitally. This is an entirely new product and we’re trying to create a whole new Eco-system so touch, feel, taste, smell, experience are all important. We do reach out via the digital space.

We have created an experience store and we prefer reaching out to people directly than online. Advertising online helps but not as much as making people experiencing your product is very important. Pop Ups, Fleas and Expos have helped us a lot in achieving marketing goals.

Q4. What piece of advice would you give to women who would start a business of their own.
PS: The very same that I would to men too – Just go for it. If you have the will, passion and expertise, there’s nothing that should stop you. Cross all hurdles and come out a winner!

Q5. What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?
PS: Plan ahead, try to hold your calm and always be on your toes. And no matter what, never lose hope and passion.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey and your passion with so many of us. We wish you all the success for this inspiring venture.
