Dr. Namrata Rupani is a dentist and award-winning photographer, besides being an accomplished Kathak dancer as well. She aces it in all her roles, as is evident in the stellar work being done through her vision at her clinic Capture Life Dentistry and her studio Capture Life.
I’ve had the honour and privilege of being photographed by her, and I can say without hesitation that she is right up there, with the best of the best. Her work has been featured in various publications across the world, and we’re so happy that she’s sharing snippets of her journey with us!
Here’s our tete-a-tete with her:
1) How did the idea of your business come about ?
NR: I had studied to be a Dental Surgeon and was running a dental practice for the last 10 years which was purely on appointment basis. The photography was something that grew over the last 7-8 years – more of me getting requests from people rather than it being a planned move. So the dental practice was a planned move – however, cant take much credit for planning the photography career – its more like it found me.
2) What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur ?
NR: The desire to create something that was bigger than me and hopefully one day independent of me.
3) How do you market your business and which tactics have been most successful?
NR: I have been largely running the show by word of mouth. The focus on the clinical practice has been to have a highly ethical practice, with a no negotiation policy for anything but a 100% on the quality. Its tough because that way it is slow, but you know for a fact anyone new who comes to you comes with a referral and the trust that you will take care of them.
The photography business has been pretty much the same – referrals getting me more business, but we do rely on social media for helping give people a taste of our work..
4) What piece of advice would you give to women who would start a business of their own?
NR: Well first of all be very sure it is what you want to do. Despite knowing very well and making a well thought over decision to start Capture Life (Dental Care and Photography Services) its not been easy. I feel like every day is a roller coaster and every other day feels like a new mountain I am climbing.
But if your gut tells you that’s what you want to do – then go straight ahead, and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Just keep your focus, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. And enjoy your journey!
5) What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?
NR: Having a really good support system to fall back on – they keep me going. As does good reading and when I need to ease off some stress, a walk in KBR park can be therapeutic!
